The Folio Society, London, 2010. Condition: Mint as issued. No. 1588 of 1980 copies. 2 volumes. One volume is an introduction to the work by Peter Halliday in 48 pp. with black and white illustrations. The facsimile volume is a Folio with 768 pp. illustrated with Eric Gill's engravings. From the Colophon: " The Canterbury Tales was originally printed by Robert & Moira Gibbings at the Golden Cockrel Press, 1929 - 21, using the text edited by the Rev. Walter W. Skeat. This facsimile edition was printed in 2010 by Memminger MedienCentrum on Corolla Classic Watermark laid paper and bound by G. Lachenmaier in full goatskin leather with Merida Forest endleaves. The engravings are reproduced by kind permission of the Estate of Eric Gill / The Bridgeman Art Library. The edition is limited to 1980 numbered copies for sale to members of The Folio Society, and 25 lettered copies which are not for sale. This is copy number 1215.". The facsimile volume is bound in full black goatskin with elaborate gilt decoration on front cover and spine. All edges gilt. Both volumes are housed in the publishers cloth covered solander box which has gilt lettering on the spine.
