C1880s A large volume, measuring approx 33.5cm x 25.5cm x 1.9cm. Bound in full leather with ornate gilt embossed borders to the front and rear boards, with titles to centre. There are five raised bands to spine, with titles and decoration to compartments. The extremities are a bit surface rubbed and worn, and the corners are a little bumped and nicked. The rear board has some pale markings/residue and a little to front. Internally, there is splendid embossed gilt decoration to the inside front and rear board edges. Internally, the front hinge is cracking a little, and the endpapers are splitting at join. The front endpapers and the following few leaves, including frontispiece and title page, are dampstained and wrinkled. See photos. The contents are cracked and shaken throughout, and eaves and sections are loosening and sit proudly. The contents are a bit grubby and foxed in places throughout. The tissue guards are creased and foxed, and a few  have been restuck or are torn at the inner edge. There is a corner creasing/cracking to the botto corners in places throughout, and a few small stained patches. The majority of the leaves are in reasonable condition.Frontispiece and 8 further wonderful plates by Gustav Dore.
